St. Jerome was a very talented polyglot. He laid grounds for all translators by trying to overcome language barriers between different cultures and by promoting language education.

According to a legend he managed to translate the Bible in just one night. However the legend says nothing about any fees for express deadlines or the use of any CAT tools.

The International Translation Day was officially recognised by the International Federation of Translators in 1991 to honour St. Jerome, whereas it has been observed by translators all over the world since 1953.
